The Artist Project

The Artist Project

WOW!!!!!!!  So excited to exhibit at the Artist Project in late February at the  Better Living Centre at Exhibition Place in Toronto. This is my first time to show in a large Toronto venue in a dozen years.

Debra Lynn Carroll and Lorne McDermott

A few months ago my fellow resident artist at Loft Gallery in Thornbury, Lorne McDermott, and I went off to Killarney for the autumn colours and the outdoor experience.

Important News!

New Killarney paintings for the Artist Project! I am thrilled with how the new paintings take me back to how I felt when I stood amongst the trees that over-look Lake George in Killarney Provincial Park.

The Landscape Genre in Art

20  years ago I had a teacher,  Associate Professor Laura Millard, at the Ontario College of Art and Design (now OCAD U) who changed the way I looked at the landscape genre in painting.  She taught us how landscape paintings can be about many things such as psychological or emotional subjects and reflections of beliefs of the times they were painted in.

Why I Paint the Landscape

My art school journey involved fervently pursuing my personal artistic exploration. I poured my accumulated angst and other emotions and experiences out on paper, canvas and sculpture.  These visual exploratory experiences were important for me but not what I wanted to put out there in the world as an artist.  I use my landscape paintings to help me share my emotions and values with those who view them. I draw the viewer in and share life experiences with them.  Whether it is a path they too have walked upon or a celebration of a special moment in their life, a long tucked away childhood memory or the “messy” textural surfaces reflecting pain and struggle or freedom and joy…my landscapes are my voice.

Finally, I would like to share a couple of trip photos!
